This past weekend, we took our talents to the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco to celebrate and sell at the annual North Beach Festival. This year’s festival marked 61 years of the event’s occurrence and the crowds came ready to have fun.
What was once an actual beach, was filled in with landfill around the late 19th century to become the North Beach of today. After reconstruction of the area following the 1906 Earthquake, a large number of Italian immigrants moved into North Beach and shaped the character of the neighborhood that still exists today. Famous Italians from North Beach include, Joe Dimaggio, as well as former San Francisco mayor, Joseph Alioto.
This year’s North Beach Festival featured over 125 arts and crafts booths, 20 gourmet food booths, two stages of live entertainment, Italian street painting, beverage gardens, a kids’ chalk art area, and the blessing of the animals.
